Sandra Woolsey

As a Humanistic Counsellor, my aim, with adults, children and young people, is to enable deeper understanding and growth in a warm, supportive environment. Building a deeply trusting and non-judgemental relationship between the client and myself gives space for clients to develop a more positive sense of being. Clients become increasingly able to gain a greater sense of clarity in their lives and can move forward with more freedom in their thoughts.

I have Person-Centred training and my practice is based on Carl Roger's view that “Therapy is not a matter of doing something to the individual or inducting him to do something about himself. It is instead a matter of freeing him for normal growth and development”. (Rogers 1942)

I work with adults and also with children and young people from the age of 6 years and upwards. I have Children and Young People Counselling status with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society.

 My approach

Humanistic Counselling encompasses a deeply empathic, genuine and non-judgemental connection with clients. By beginning to understand and value personal thoughts and self-concepts, clients develop a positive sense of being. Clients become increasingly able to gain a greater sense of clarity in their lives and can move forward with more freedom in their thoughts.

As a member of the British Association of Counselling I work in line with the Ethical Code of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. Personal information is therefore handled within the strict rules of confidentiality set within BACP boundaries. Non-judgemental values are a key part of my counselling, with all aspects of The Equality Act of 2010, particularly in embracing diversity and disability, being incorporated as an integral strength in her work. Sandra is fully DBS checked, with up-to-date certification.

Counselling for Young People

Young people can face an enormously wide range of challenges in today's world. As a specialist CYP counsellor my wealth of training and experience enables me to interact in a very flexible and age-appropriate way, guided by clients themselves. Younger clients often enjoy using art, sand tray and other creative methods to express their emotions, where others respond well to simply being heard and understood in a fully non-judgemental and supportive environment.

I have over thirty years of experience of working both as Primary and Secondary School teacher and also as counsellor for charities, schools and colleges, providing counselling for young people from the age of 6 - 25. I have NCSP registration as a Child and Young Person Therapist and I currently work for the organisation 'No Limits' in Southampton, where I provide professional counselling for young people. I am currently training to develop Family Counselling skills at the Institute for Family Counselling in London.
