Rebecca Fryer

Hello, I am Rebecca,

I am a Child Psychotherapeutic Counsellor working exclusively with children and young people. At CAU12, I can see young people aged between 11 and 19.

I know that life can be challenging and confusing for young people and having a space to think things through can be helpful. I offer a calm and supportive space to explore thoughts and feelings. Through creative and traditional approaches, I will help you or your child find connection, safety, resilience, growth and support.

I know that not all children and young people like to talk so I have lots of creative ways to help them explore their self -image and their patterns of relating. How I work is dependent on the needs of the individual and will also very from session to session. Mainly I work in a child led way to ensure each client feels seen and heard.

You can expect warmth, understanding, care and compassion from me for both you and your child.

 My approach

I am an integrative child and young person psychotherapeutic counsellor working with clients aged 11-19 and their parents. I have completed a full 3-year training in how to work exclusively with this age group. I am registered with BACP and work to their code of ethics.

I have experience working in schools, colleges and with a trauma charity and now I have set up Creative Roots to allow me to offer therapeutic support outside the structure of schools.

Pre-teen and adolescence are such times of growth when our bodies and brains go through huge changes – so much so it can be hard to recognise your child anymore. Imagine how this might feel for them – some teens describe feelings of huge turmoil going on within them.

Life can be very hard for this age group who can feel under lots of pressure both socially and academically. Concerns may emerge around personal identity, sexuality, technology, healthy eating, sleep habits as well as around events in the world, climate change and the future.

I work with teenagers by listening to their worries and developing a relationship with them where they can feel truly seen and heard. This is empowering as some feel unseen, overlooked and powerless at this age. They are often flooded with so many emotions they can find it hard to understand what is happening.

Therapy gives them a chance to slow down and get to know themselves in a safe, private, non-judgemental space. This helps to increase their sense of worth, helps regulate feelings and improve communication. By facilitating this exploration, teens can grow in confidence feeling better able to communicate their feelings and needs at home and at school.

Some reasons why people come to see me:

Low mood, numbness, depression, anxiety, anger, stress, self-harm, friendship difficulties, bullying, lack of self-esteem and confidence, social anxiety, relationship issues, grief, loss, self-discovery and personal growth, life transitions
