Harriet Henry

Hello. I am a BACP accredited counsellor, experienced in supporting individuals aged 15 upwards with a range of issues. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental, compassionate space to enable you to explore whatever is troubling you. My approach is collaborative; to help you to work out what might make life lighter, less exhausting and feel less stuck. I approach the counselling process as a gentle journey of discovery. In my experience change happens when we can set aside self-judgement and allow ourselves to gain in self-understanding.

How I work

We all feel overwhelmed at points in our life and it can be hard to know where to turn. This may be due to anxiety, depression, a significant loss or change in circumstances or perhaps issues from the past that are unresolved. I often hear the phrase ‘this keeps happening to me and it can’t just be a coincidence’, sometimes about a feeling such as anxiety or a pattern within our lives. I believe counselling offers an opportunity to gain greater understanding of our own responses to and ways of relating with others and the world around us, giving us greater choice going forward.

My initial training was in Humanistic counselling with Transactional Analysis. This is a model of counselling that is built on the principle that we are all valuable and can grow and change. This forms the basis of my counselling practice.

Since that initial training I have explored many other counselling models and have developed a trauma-informed practice with a range of tools to facilitate exploration and repair. I believe my role is to facilitate change at the client’s pace. I tailor the therapy to the client, sharing my theoretical understanding if the client finds this helpful.
